On Filmmaking & the Feminist Gaze
Ana is a Peruvian-Canadian writer, filmmaker, producer, and actor based in Vancouver, BC. She has directed and produced award-winning films and documentaries that have been featured at international festivals such as Tribeca, Hot Docs, and Palm Springs. Her sci-fi drama "The Shipment" was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival (2019) and was featured as part of NASA’s 50th Anniversary of the moon landing. She also wrote, produced, and starred in the short film "A Pregnant Woman" (2021).
She is an NBC-Universal Screenwriting Scholarship alumni who graduated with honours. Ana produced the award-winning documentary "The Day Don Died," funded by Telus. She recently directed a documentary for New York Magazine and is developing the feature documentary "Chemical Consent," which received the Creative BC and Ted Rogers Development award in 2021. Additionally, she's working on "Conversations with Madre," a VR hybrid documentary that won the Canada Council Explore and Create Award in 2022. In May 2024, her latest production "Lost in the Shuffle" had its premiere at Hot Docs Film Festival in the Spotlight section, and she is about to release her short doc "Pathways," which highlights how refugee women are disrupting the Canadian political landscape. Ana is also a Vancouver Film School instructor and TEDx speaker.
